Regis Prograis Calls Time on Boxing Career After Tough Loss to Conor Benn
Two-time super-lightweight world champion Regis Prograis has retired at 37, closing the chapter on a 30-4 career following his defeat to Conor Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Regis Prograis has called time on his boxing career at the age of 37, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished two-decade run that produced two world titles and 24 knockout victories.

The American, who had been contemplating retirement for months, confirmed his decision in the aftermath of Saturday’s defeat to Conor Benn at a raucous Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Nearly 70,000 spectators witnessed what proved to be the final chapter of a remarkable story.

“Going in, I knew I was going to retire,” Prograis confessed to Ring Magazine afterward. “This is my last fight. I knew this months ago — I just didn’t tell anybody. But I was terrified going into this.”

The build-up to the bout had been shrouded in speculation about Prograis’s fitness, with reports surfacing that he had been battling injury. The former champion admitted he had seriously considered withdrawing a month before the fight, and again just 24 hours beforehand.

Despite the nerves, Prograis described the occasion as the perfect ending. “It’s a great fight to be my last against someone like Conor Benn, someone that was strong — an arena like this with 70,000 in a stadium. I couldn’t ask for a better going away party, perfect end to my story.”

Prograis exits with a professional record of 30 wins against four defeats. He captured the WBA super-lightweight title in 2019 and held the WBC crown in the same division from 2022 to 2023. His career included memorable battles against some of the biggest names in the 140-pound division, establishing him as one of the premier fighters of his generation.

The bout against Benn, while resulting in a loss, provided a fitting stage for the Houston-native’s farewell — a thunderous atmosphere befitting a man who gave so much to the sport.
