Reedijk says seven-hour board meeting convinced him to join Hibernian
Marink Reedijk says detailed discussions with Hibernian's board persuaded him to take the managerial job. The Dutchman has spent his first two weeks introducing his ideas to a squad sitting 10th in the Scottish Premiership.

Marink Reedijk says a seven-hour meeting with Hibernian's board convinced him to become the club's new manager, with discussions covering his football philosophy and how the club should be run. According to BBC Sport, the 35-year-old Dutchman has spent the past two weeks settling into the role after leaving Belgian side Beveren, whom he led to promotion last season.

Reedijk described a recruitment process that moved quickly from an initial video call to an extended meeting in London a few days later. The talks addressed his preferred style of play, the club itself and the way he and the board would work together. He identified those detailed conversations as an important reason for accepting the position.

His introduction to the squad included joining Hibernian's warm-weather training camp in Spain. Reedijk said the opening fortnight had involved long working days as he learned about the players, staff and wider organisation. He also said the time had allowed him to communicate his ideas to the group, describing the early work as productive despite its intensity.

Hibernian are 10th in the Scottish Premiership, and Reedijk made clear that winning matches is central to his ambitions. Alongside results, however, he wants to strengthen the club's collective identity. He said supporters, staff and players should feel involved, with a shared sense of belonging extending beyond the team on the pitch and into the stands.

The appointment is Reedijk's first managerial job in a top-tier league. He arrives in Edinburgh following his promotion-winning spell at Beveren and said his research into Hibernian had highlighted the strength of their support. He described a family atmosphere at the club, both in what he had learned before joining and in his own experience since arriving.

Reedijk also pointed to Scottish football's passion, history and potential, saying the competition deserved attention beyond the small number of clubs that usually attract interest abroad. In his view, the league's competitiveness makes it a demanding environment and an opportunity for personal development. His first match in charge is scheduled for Saturday, away to Dundee United at Tannadice.
