Real Madrid win sixth straight game as Lazio fight back to stay top
Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 to remain three points behind Barcelona. Lazio recovered from an early deficit against Cagliari to win 2-1 and consolidate their Serie A lead.

Real Madrid extended their winning run to six matches in all competitions with a 3-0 victory away to Racing Santander on Sunday, while Lazio came from behind to beat Cagliari 2-1 and strengthen their position at the top of Serie A. The results were reported in the Guardian's European football roundup.

Watch the highlights:

Kylian Mbappé scored from the penalty spot for Madrid, with Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomandé also finding the net. The victory kept José Mourinho's team third in La Liga, three points behind leaders Barcelona. Madrid remained one point adrift of Atlético Madrid, whose 2-0 win over Levante maintained their place between the two rivals in the standings.

Barcelona had already secured a 6-1 victory against Alavés on Saturday, leaving Madrid needing a response to avoid losing further ground. Their three-goal win supplied it and continued a run stretching across more than one competition. All three of the leading sides named in the report won their matches, so Madrid's latest success did not take them above Atlético or closer to Barcelona.

In Italy, Lazio had to recover after M'Bala Nzola put Cagliari ahead in the 20th minute. Gustav Isaksen and Andrea Pinamonti scored either side of half-time to overturn that deficit. The comeback delivered Lazio's sixth consecutive league victory, keeping Gennaro Gattuso's side on a winning sequence built entirely within Serie A.

Lazio and Inter Milan had entered the weekend level on points. By beating Cagliari, Lazio moved ahead of Inter and consolidated their place at the summit, according to the Guardian. Unlike Madrid, who won without conceding, the Italian leaders needed two goals after falling behind to secure their three points.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Como returned to the top four by beating bottom-placed Venezia 1-0 at home. Captain Lucas Da Cunha converted a penalty in the 43rd minute for his first goal of the season. Although Como dominated the game, that spot-kick remained the difference between the teams. It gave Como a fifth consecutive victory in all competitions, alongside the longer winning runs recorded by Madrid and Lazio.
