Razaullah hits 81 as Pakistan set England 130 to win at Edgbaston

England will begin a chase of 130 on Saturday after Pakistan recovered to 449 in their second innings on the third day of the Edgbaston Test. Debutant Razaullah made 81 from number nine to prevent a Friday finish, according to BBC Sport's report by Stephan Shemilt. England had scored 453 in reply to Pakistan's first-innings 133, leaving the visitors to erase a deficit of 320 before setting a target.

Pakistan were still two runs behind at 318-8 when Razaullah took the attack to England. The 21-year-old reached his half-century from 43 deliveries and struck nine sixes during his innings. The BBC reported that his tally equalled Ben Stokes' record for the most sixes in a Test innings in England. His late scoring transformed a position in which Pakistan remained at risk of losing by an innings.

Muhammad Abbas contributed 42, including two sixes, as he and Razaullah added 121 together. Their partnership helped Pakistan extend the match into a fourth day after England had appeared close to wrapping it up. Razaullah was eventually stumped off Dan Lawrence, bringing the innings and the day's play to an end without England starting their pursuit.

The lower-order resistance followed substantial contributions from Pakistan's leading batters. Resuming on 55-2, the tourists remained 268 behind England. Shan Masood and Azan Awais took their third-wicket partnership to 125 before Awais was caught down the leg side off Lawrence for 59. Their stand continued a recovery that had begun after Pakistan lost their first two second-innings wickets without scoring.

Masood then shared another 89 with captain Babar Azam but fell five runs short of a century. Gus Atkinson took the wicket, with Lawrence completing a one-handed catch at gully. Babar went on to score 76 before Josh Tongue dismissed him with a bouncer, following England's use of short-pitched bowling around the tea interval.

Razaullah had already contributed with the ball, taking 4-148 in England's first innings. His batting gave Pakistan a total to defend after their heavy first-innings deficit. England's target is now set, but the result remains unresolved: the hosts still need to complete the chase when play resumes on Saturday.
