Rangers Produce Stunning Comeback to Beat Falkirk 6-3 and Keep Scottish Premiership Title Race Alive
Rangers produced one of the most thrilling comebacks of the Scottish Premiership season on Saturday, fighting back from two goals down to defeat Falkirk 6-3 and keep the pressure on league leaders Hearts and Celtic.
Danny Rohls side looked in serious trouble when Ben Broggio and Finn Yeats scored inside 26 minutes to put Falkirk in complete control. Rangers defending for both goals was abysmal — Broggio evaded a limp attempted challenge to slot home after just six minutes, while Yeats rifled a powerful strike beyond Jack Butland from the edge of the area shortly after.
But Tochi Chukwuani gave Rangers an unlikely lifeline in the 42nd minute in truly bizarre circumstances. Falkirk stopped appealing that the ball had crossed the touchline, but it had not — and when it was headed back off a post, Chukwuani nipped in to prod home from five yards. VAR checked the incident but eventually allowed the goal, with replays proving inconclusive.
Rohls half-time team talk clearly had an effect. Within 11 minutes of the restart, Rangers were ahead. Youssef Chermiti swept a simple finish from Djeidi Gassamas cross to level, and five minutes later Nicolas Raskin smashed a fine finish into the far corner to put Rangers ahead — leaping into the stands to celebrate and briefly clashing heads with a jubilant supporter.
The momentum shift was now complete, and Bojan Miovski bundled in Raskins pinpoint cross from close range to make it 4-2 in the 58th minute. Calvin Millers penalty for Falkirk after James Taverniers foul briefly threatened a revival, but Chermitis thunderous strike from the edge of the area eased any nerves before Miovski tapped in the sixth in the 88th minute.
"We were honest to each other at half-time," Rohls said. "In three games, we have 14 goals now and nine different scorers. That is also a statement. Of course, we also have to speak about the conceded goals because they were too easy. But overall, it is great to see the group in this way."
The win propelled Rangers back to second place, just one point behind Hearts, who beat Motherwell 3-1 with two late goals including a stoppage-time penalty from Lawrence Shankland after Stephen Welsh fouled Landry Kabore. Celticas own 1-0 win over St Mirren, courtesy of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains 15th-minute strike, had briefly lifted them to second before Rangers remarkable fightback reclaimed the position.
It was a day that had everything — drama, controversy, and a reminder that Rangers never say die. With the title race tightening by the week, this result could prove pivotal.
