Putellas and Diani doubles send London City third after 6-1 win at Tottenham
London City Lionesses beat Tottenham 6-1 at Brisbane Road on Sunday, ending Spurs' unbeaten start to the Women's Super League season. Alexia Putellas and Kadidiatou Diani each scored twice as the visitors moved above Tottenham into third place, according to The Guardian's league roundup and Tottenham's official match report.
Watch the highlights:
Putellas opened the scoring in the third minute after Lize Kop saved Grace Geyoro's shot. Diani added a second in the 22nd minute from Lucia Corrales' cutback, before Putellas struck again in the 34th. Danielle van de Donk supplied the pass for that third goal after Tottenham failed to clear a corner fully.
Van de Donk made it 4-0 seven minutes after half-time, with Victoria Pelova replying a minute later. Diani then blocked Kop's attempted clearance and finished into an empty net in the 74th minute. Substitute Delphine Cascarino completed the scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Tottenham's report confirmed.
Spurs head coach Martin Ho told the club's SPURSPLAY service that his team had fallen below its expected standards and needed to take collective responsibility. He pointed to slow reactions, decision-making and a lack of competitiveness in individual contests. Ho said London City had been physically stronger in duels across the pitch, both in central areas and out wide.
Ho also identified the opening goal as an example of Tottenham reacting too slowly after a save. He said his players needed greater concentration against opponents capable of punishing those moments, and called for a stronger response when the league resumes after the international break. The defeat was Spurs' first of the 2026-27 WSL campaign.
The result left London City on 12 points from five matches, two ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham, according to The Guardian's published table. Manchester City lead with 15 points and Chelsea have 13. BBC Sport reported that Putellas now has three WSL goals since joining from Barcelona, with London City's victory coming immediately before a two-week pause in the league schedule.
