PSG-Lyon moved to Monday amid Paris protest security demands
The Ligue 1 meeting between Paris St-Germain and Lyon has been rescheduled after police barred it from taking place on Sunday. Protests and an NFL game have added to security demands in the French capital.

Paris St-Germain's home Ligue 1 match against Lyon has been moved from Sunday to Monday after French police prohibited it from going ahead on its original date. BBC Sport reported that the Ligue de Football Professionnel announced the change on Friday, with Paris preparing for another weekend of demonstrations and a major security operation.

Watch the highlights:

The Parc des Princes fixture had been scheduled for 19:45 GMT on Sunday and is now set for 20:30 on Monday. The rearrangement affects a meeting between the division's leading two sides: Lyon top the standings with 14 points, while reigning French and European champions PSG are second after seven matches, behind on goal difference.

Authorities are preparing for protests planned for Saturday following large demonstrations the previous weekend. According to BBC Sport, around 550,000 people took part last Saturday, protesting fuel prices, education standards and living costs. Those demonstrations followed weeks of student protests, with marches in Paris and other major French cities backed by unions and student organisations. Some were accompanied by violence, looting and damage.

The policing demands also extend to American football. The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints are due to play at the Stade de France on Sunday, an event expected to need substantial police resources. That stadium is in Saint-Denis, roughly 10 kilometres from Place de la Bastille, where the protests are expected to start, BBC Sport reported.

PSG-Lyon is not the only domestic football fixture affected by the disruption. Toulouse's home Ligue 1 match against Troyes has also been rearranged at the authorities' request, shifting from Saturday to Sunday. The changes therefore alter the schedule for two league matches across the weekend, with the Paris fixture now extending into Monday.

The new date also puts PSG's match on the same day as the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London. Ousmane Dembele, who won the award in 2025, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are among the contenders. BBC Sport described both PSG players as injured. The schedule change means their club's meeting with the league leaders now shares the calendar with the individual awards event.
