PSG extend winning run to 11 as Roma climb to second in Serie A
Paris Saint-Germain extended their winning streak across all competitions to 11 matches with a 1-0 victory over Troyes, while Roma moved into second place in Serie A by beating Sassuolo 3-0. The Guardian's European football roundup reported both results on Saturday, alongside a 1-0 away win for Paris FC that kept them three points behind PSG in Ligue 1.
Watch the highlights:
Illia Zabarnyi supplied the decisive goal for PSG at the Parc des Princes. The Ukraine defender headed in a cross from Senny Mayulu in the 39th minute, giving the home side an advantage they retained for the rest of the match. PSG fielded a weakened team against newly promoted Troyes, who remained among the bottom three clubs in the division.
Paris FC's victory at Auxerre came courtesy of Lassine Sinayoko, who scored in the second half against the club he left during the summer. The Mali forward converted an assist from Pablo Pagis to settle the match. The result left Liam Rosenior's side second in the table, with their neighbours still ahead of them despite both Paris clubs collecting wins.
Sinayoko's contribution also strengthened his individual position in the scoring standings. The 26-year-old led Ligue 1 with nine goals in 10 games, according to the report. His provider, Pagis, had received his first call-up to the France squad from Zinedine Zidane on Friday, before helping Paris FC secure the only goal of their visit to Auxerre.
In Rome, Sassuolo resisted until the 27th minute, when Mario Hermoso advanced towards the penalty area. His attempted pass to Donyell Malen was intercepted, but he recovered possession, created room with a touch and scored. Roma doubled their advantage three minutes later: Malen's shot took a touch off a defender before Sebastian Walukiewicz put the ball into his own net.
Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric then denied Leonardo Balerdi and Matías Soulé before half-time, preventing Roma from extending their lead before the interval. The third goal arrived in the 58th minute through Rodrigo Mora. Roma completed the 3-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico to take second place in the Italian standings.
