Prograis Ends Brilliant Career With Fitting Farewell at Tottenham: I Knew This Was My Last Fight
Two-time super-lightweight world champion Regis Prograis has called time on his boxing career at age 37 following his defeat to Conor Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Regis Prograis is hanging up his gloves. The two-time super-lightweight world champion announced his retirement at age 37, concluding a 16-year professional career that produced a 30-4 record with 24 knockouts and major title reigns in both the WBA and WBC divisions.

Prograis suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Conor Benn at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night before an estimated crowd of 70,000 spectators. The loss brought the curtain down on a distinguished career that began in 2012.

Going in, I knew I was going to retire. This is my last fight. I knew this months ago - I just did not tell anybody, Prograis told Ring Magazine. I was terrified going into this. I could not ask for a better going away party, a perfect end to my story.

The Houston-born fighter revealed he had contemplated withdrawing from the bout in the weeks leading up to the fight. The rumours about me being hurt were true. I wanted to pull out of this fight so bad a month ago but kept pushing. I was terrified and thinking about pulling out even yesterday, he admitted after the defeat.

Prograis captured the WBA super-lightweight title in 2019 and held the WBC crown in the same weight division from 2022 to 2023. His career featured notable victories over Jose Ramirez and Josh Taylor, establishing him as one of the premier operators in the 140-pound category over the past decade.

The atmosphere at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium provided what Prograis described as the ideal setting for his farewell, with the electric crowd creating a memorable backdrop for his final professional bout. He exits the sport on his own terms, having given fans one last memorable night at one of football's grandest venues.
