Portsmouth edge Millwall as Norwich end six-match losing run at Charlton
Thomas Waddingham’s late winner gave Portsmouth a 2-1 comeback victory over Millwall. Norwich also recovered from an early deficit, beating Charlton 3-1 to end a six-match losing streak.

Portsmouth came from behind to beat Millwall 2-1 at Fratton Park, while Norwich ended a six-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory at Charlton. According to the Guardian’s Championship roundup, Thomas Waddingham supplied Portsmouth’s decisive goal in the 82nd minute, and Norwich’s recovery brought a welcome result for head coach Philippe Clement after their sequence of defeats.

Watch the highlights:

Waddingham’s winner came when Jake Cooper attempted to clear the ball, only for it to rebound off the Portsmouth player and into the net. It completed a turnaround in a match where mistakes had already shaped both opening goals. Jenson Metcalfe had given Millwall an early advantage following an error by goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid, before Lyndon Dykes’s own goal brought Portsmouth level.

The result continued a productive spell for Portsmouth, who have now won three of their past four matches. Millwall, by contrast, have collected six points from their last seven games. For the visitors, an early lead ultimately produced no points, with Waddingham’s late intervention separating the teams after Dykes’s own goal had cancelled out Metcalfe’s opener.

Norwich also had to recover after conceding first. Charlie Kelman put Charlton ahead, but Paris Maghoma equalised before Mathias Kvistgaarden gave the visitors the lead. An Ivan Mesik own goal then completed the scoring. The defeat was Charlton’s first at The Valley this season and extended their winless Championship run to nine matches, while Norwich finally stopped their run of losses.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United drew 1-1 with Derby at Bramall Lane. Bobby Clark scored for the visitors in the first half, and Patrick Bamford equalised in the 79th minute against a Derby side reduced to 10 players. Bamford was injured while scoring and went off after landing awkwardly, the Guardian reported. Its account did not specify the nature or severity of the injury.

Those results followed Middlesbrough’s 5-1 victory at Bolton on Friday, when Will Lankshear scored twice. Aidan Morris and Amario Cozier-Duberry were also on target, alongside a Lewis Brunt own goal, while Thelonius Bair scored for Bolton. Lankshear’s second took his league tally to 11, and Middlesbrough extended their sequence of wins over Bolton to 10, a run dating back to 2014.
