Port Vale relegated to League Two following defeat at Cardiff City
Port Vale have been officially relegated from League One following a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City, marking a devastating end to their three-year spell in the third tier.

Port Vale's relegation to League Two has been confirmed after a crushing 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City on Wednesday afternoon. The result leaves the club 10 points from safety with only three matches remaining in the season, making mathematical survival impossible.

Watch the highlights:

The Valiants fell behind early when Cardiff's Josh Bowler opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Despite Ben Albodon's equalizer just before halftime, goals from Callum O'Hare and an own goal in the second half sealed Port Vale's fate.

Manager Andy Crowcroft expressed his devastation: "We're absolutely gutted. The players gave everything today but it wasn't enough. We knew the situation going in and the boys tried desperately to change our fortunes."

The relegation marks a dramatic fall from grace for a club that secured promotion from League Two in 2022 and challenged for playoff spots in their first two seasons back in League One. Financial constraints and injuries have plagued Port Vale throughout this campaign.

Captain Tom Lomas addressed the supporters: "The fans have been incredible throughout this difficult season. We owe them everything and we'll work harder than ever to come back stronger."

Chairman Mark Stubbs acknowledged the challenge ahead: "Relegation hurts but our plan is clear: stabilize financially, rebuild the squad, and target an immediate return to League One."

The club will begin preparations for life in the fourth tier immediately, with season ticket renewals and a squad overhaul expected to dominate the summer agenda.
