Phil Mickelson returns home after treatment, representatives confirm
Phil Mickelson's representatives have confirmed he sought treatment earlier this year and has returned home. The six-time major champion's plans for a return to competitive golf remain unclear.

Phil Mickelson has returned home after voluntarily entering a treatment facility earlier this year, his representatives have confirmed. According to a report published by The Guardian on Thursday, the six-time major champion sought help for what his representatives described as "family trauma and addiction" during a year largely spent away from competitive golf.

Watch the highlights:

The confirmation was given to multiple outlets on Wednesday, with TMZ first reporting the news. Mickelson's representatives did not disclose when he entered the facility or how long he remained there. Those details remain unknown, as does the timing of any return to tournament play for the 56-year-old.

Mickelson has made only one LIV Golf tournament appearance this season, playing in South Africa in March. He subsequently withdrew from several events on the circuit, citing a family health matter. The Guardian reported that his plans to resume playing remain unclear, with uncertainty also surrounding the future of LIV Golf.

His absence has extended to two of golf's major championships. Mickelson withdrew from the Masters in April and said at the time that he expected to be away for an extended period. He later also pulled out of the PGA Championship in May, leaving his South Africa appearance as his sole LIV start this season.

In June, Mickelson denied allegations involving nonconsensual and inappropriate physical conduct with a female employee at a San Diego golf club. The Guardian reported that his lawyer confirmed his resignation from the Farms Golf Club amid those allegations and said he was working on recovery. The allegations were disputed, not established as facts.

Mickelson has previously spoken publicly about gambling addiction. In 2023, he said he was in recovery and described how his betting had distanced him from people close to him. That earlier disclosure forms part of his public account of addiction, although the latest confirmation from his representatives did not provide further details about this year's treatment.

Writing on social media in September 2023, Mickelson described receiving professional help over a number of years and no longer gambling. He also said rebuilding relationships with loved ones remained a gradual process. This week's statement confirms that he sought further help and has since returned home.
