Phebe Molkenboer Century Powers Netherlands Past Scotland in First ODI

Phebe Molkenboer scored her first one-day international century as the Netherlands beat Scotland by 58 runs in the opening match of their three-game series at Titwood. BBC Sport reported that the Dutch made 270-4 from their 50 overs before dismissing Scotland for 212 in 48.5 overs. The victory gave the visitors the early advantage in the series.

Scotland won the toss under stand-in captain Abtaha Maqsood and chose to bowl at Clydesdale Cricket Club. The hosts found wickets difficult to collect on a good batting surface. Maqsood delivered Scotland's first breakthrough by removing opener Sanya Khurana for 46 and ended the innings with figures of 1-35.

Molkenboer remained the central figure in the Netherlands total, making 106 and recording the first ODI hundred of her career. Babette de Leede added 69 and Robine Rijke contributed 18. Their runs helped the visitors complete their allocation with six wickets still in hand and leave Scotland needing 271 to win.

Scotland fielded a youthful side without Kathryn Bryce, Sarah Bryce, Kirstie Gordon and Katherine Fraser. Charlotte Nevard and Rebecca McCrossan were handed international debuts, but neither was able to make a significant contribution with the bat. Nevard was trapped leg before wicket by Caroline de Lange from her first delivery, while Khurana bowled McCrossan for five.

Pippa Sproul provided the main resistance in Scotland's chase, making 79, while McColl contributed 33. Those innings were not enough to take the hosts close to the Dutch total. The Netherlands completed the win when Scotland were bowled out with seven deliveries unused, with Siegers leading the visiting bowling figures by taking 3-42. Scotland ultimately finished 58 runs short.

The result put the Netherlands 1-0 ahead in a series that was arranged at short notice. According to BBC Sport, the Dutch are seeking to regain their ODI ranking and avoid a substantial reduction in funding next year. The two remaining fixtures are scheduled for Sunday and Tuesday, with both matches due to be played at Stirling County Cricket Club.
