Pastrnak shootout winner lifts Bruins past Golden Knights 3-2
David Pastrnak scored the decisive shootout goal as the Boston Bruins beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 at TD Garden on Monday night. The victory extended Boston's home winning streak to six games after Vegas had recovered from a two-goal deficit to force the contest beyond regulation.
Watch the highlights:
According to the Associated Press game report, Jeremy Swayman stopped Trevor Connelly, Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner in the shootout. That left Pastrnak to settle the game in the third round with a shot past Carter Hart. Swayman finished with 21 saves, while Hart made 25 for the Golden Knights.
James Hagens opened Boston's scoring with his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov. Morgan Geekie then put the Bruins 2-0 ahead on the power play, with Pavel Zacha and Pastrnak providing the assists. The two goals gave Boston an advantage that Vegas erased over the second and third periods.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Golden Knights forward Braeden Bowman was ejected in the second period for elbowing Boston's Matthew Poitras. Geekie's goal came during the resulting five-minute power play. Vegas responded through captain Mark Stone, whose team-leading 10th goal arrived just eight seconds into a power play and reduced the deficit to one.
Connelly completed the comeback at 7:23 of the third period, scoring from a sharp angle after briefly leaving the game because of injury, according to the Review-Journal. The newspaper also reported that Hart was back after missing two starts with a lower-body injury. Vegas earned a point from the recovery but could not add another in the shootout.
The loss left the Golden Knights at 9-5-2 and was their fifth defeat in six games. Boston, meanwhile, recorded a second consecutive victory after two straight defeats. AP reported that Vegas had conceded a power-play goal in seven of its past eight games. Both clubs next travel to Pittsburgh, with the Golden Knights scheduled to play there on Tuesday and the Bruins on Thursday.
