Parkinson seeks Wrexham response after late West Brom comeback
Phil Parkinson called on Wrexham to address their shortcomings after West Bromwich Albion recovered from a goal down to win 2-1 at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday, October 13. Isaac Price and substitute Aune Heggebo scored late in the Championship match to overturn Kieffer Moore’s opener.
Watch the highlights:
According to Sky Sports’ match report, Moore put the hosts ahead in the 64th minute with a long-range shot into the top corner. Albion had threatened earlier in the second half, when Price volleyed at goalkeeper Anthony Patterson and George Campbell struck the crossbar with a header from a Callum Styles corner.
Price equalised in the 79th minute after Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s cross was deflected into his path. Five minutes later, Price supplied Heggebo for the winning finish from eight yards. Sky Sports reported that the victory returned Albion to the play-off positions, while Wrexham were left with two wins from 10 league matches. The turnaround followed Albion’s derby defeats by Wolves and Birmingham.
BBC Sport reported that the result was West Brom’s first league victory in four games and prevented Wrexham from winning successive home fixtures for the first time since February. Parkinson said the manner of the defeat made it particularly difficult because his players had felt the match was within their grasp. He called for a review of where the team could improve rather than expecting sympathy.
The Wrexham manager also explained why Moore was taken off shortly after scoring. The 34-year-old Wales international had completed the full match in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Derby County, and Parkinson said his workload needed managing. According to the BBC, the manager stressed that Moore had only just played his first full 90 minutes for some time before being selected again against Albion.
Parkinson praised Moore’s start to the season, pointing to his four goals, assists and different types of finishes. He felt the striker’s latest goal deserved to accompany a victory, but it instead came in a match that yielded no points.
