Parkinson Takes Six as Durham Bowl Northamptonshire Out for 50

Callum Parkinson took 6-20 as Durham bowled Northamptonshire out for 50 and completed a 153-run victory in their County Championship Division Two meeting at Wantage Road. BBC Sport, carrying an ECB Reporters' Network account, reported that Northamptonshire's second-innings total was their lowest against Durham.

Set 204 to win on the final morning, the hosts lost all 10 wickets in 22.2 overs and were beaten with more than two sessions remaining. None of their batters reached double figures. The collapse left the final scores at Durham 205 and 261, and Northamptonshire 263 and 50.

Parkinson supplied the decisive spell with his left-arm spin, finding turn and capitalising as Northamptonshire tried to attack him. He began his haul by having Ricardo Vasconcelos stumped by Ollie Robinson, before Nathan McSweeney was caught by Kasey Aldridge and George Bartlett edged behind during a damaging double-wicket over.

The spinner completed his five-wicket haul by bowling James Sales, then removed Northamptonshire's top scorer Louis Kimber for eight when he was caught at deep midwicket. England seamer Matthew Potts supported Parkinson with 2-13 from seven overs, while Ben Stokes returned 2-9 and ended the match when Yuzvendra Chahal was caught at second slip.

Northamptonshire had started the day with a realistic route to victory after restricting Durham's second innings to 261. Resuming on 246-7, Durham lost their final three wickets for 15 runs, all to Chahal. The leg-spinner bowled Potts, trapped Robinson lbw and had Parkinson caught at mid-on to finish with 5-84. Alex Lees had earlier led Durham's second innings with 80.

The win earned Durham 19 points, while Northamptonshire collected four. According to the BBC report, the outcome consolidated Durham's position as Division Two leaders with three matches still to play, giving their promotion campaign another significant boost after a contest that had remained competitive until the final-morning collapse.
