Parkinson Double Strike Seals Kent’s 46-Run Win Over Middlesex
Matt Parkinson took the final two wickets in successive balls as Kent dismissed Middlesex for 309 and completed a 46-run County Championship victory.

Kent strengthened their County Championship promotion challenge with a 46-run victory over Middlesex at Merchant Taylors’ School, completing their fifth win of the season and third in succession in Division Two. BBC Sport, carrying a report from the ECB Reporters’ Network, said Middlesex were dismissed for 309 while chasing 356 on the final day.

Watch the highlights:

The hosts resumed needing another 170 runs with six wickets standing, but Kent quickly tightened their grip. Matt Quinn’s eighth delivery of the morning moved back to bowl Ryan Higgins, and Matt Milnes then yorked Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy for 40. Those strikes left the chase dependent on the lower order and Joe Cracknell.

Quinn trapped Zafar Gohar leg before, while Keith Dudgeon made an immediate impact when his first ball bowled Toby Roland-Jones. At 225 for eight, Middlesex still required 131 runs, and Kent appeared close to completing the win well before lunch.

Cracknell and Tom Helm then produced a determined ninth-wicket stand of 74. Helm struck several boundaries as the pair brought the target below 100, while Cracknell combined restraint with selective aggression. He reached his third half-century of the season with a boundary off Milnes and remained unbeaten on 65. Middlesex reached 300 at lunch, leaving Kent with work still to do.

Matt Parkinson ended the resistance shortly after the interval. Helm drove the leg-spinner to Kent captain Daniel Bell-Drummond at cover for 33, and Parkinson then bowled last batter Noah Cornwell with his next delivery. The successive wickets completed the dismissal of Middlesex for 309 and secured Kent’s second Championship win over them this season.

Kent had made 350 in their first innings before dismissing Middlesex for 249, with Milnes taking five wickets. The visitors then scored 254, led by Ben Compton’s 65 and Tawanda Muyeye’s 64, to set the target of 356. Kent collected 22 points and remained second in Division Two ahead of a trip to promotion rivals Northamptonshire beginning Thursday. Middlesex earned three points and next travel to Derbyshire. The result also gave Kent their first Championship double over Middlesex since 2018.
