The Overlap Buys Mark Goldbridge's Manchester United Channels in Seven-Figure Deal
Gary Neville's media company The Overlap has acquired the YouTube channels of Manchester United influencer Mark Goldbridge in a seven-figure deal.

Gary Neville's media venture The Overlap has completed a significant acquisition in the football content space, purchasing the YouTube channels operated by Manchester United influencer Mark Goldbridge. The deal, announced Tuesday, carries a seven-figure price tag and represents one of the most notable moves yet in the consolidation of football media.

Goldbridge's primary channel, The United Stand, boasts 2.26 million subscribers and centers on his live reactions to Manchester United matches. His secondary platform, That's Football, has accumulated 1.46 million subscribers and covers broader football topics beyond the Red Devils. Combined with their social media presence across TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook — roughly 4.4 million followers for The United Stand and nearly 350,000 for That's Football — the deal brings a substantial audience under The Overlap's umbrella.

Neville, the former Manchester United defender who founded The Overlap in 2021, said the acquisition aligns with ambitions to build one of the most compelling independent football communities online. "We are building what we believe will become one of the most exciting independent football communities in the world — one that gives fans direct, personality-led content," Neville said. "The United Stand and That's Football are two of the best-known football channels on YouTube, and our intention is to develop them into the most compelling Manchester United and football news channels in the market."

The Overlap, which operates a YouTube channel with 1.66 million subscribers and produces the popular Stick to Football podcast featuring Neville alongside Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, and Ian Wright, plans significant editorial expansion of the acquired channels. New programming will include Stick to United, featuring former players and journalists discussing all things Manchester United, as well as a daily news show called Daily United.

Goldbridge, whose real name is Brent di Cesare, expressed pride in what he has built over the past decade while looking toward the next chapter. "I have spent the last 10 years building The United Stand for Manchester United fans and That's Football for all fans, and I am prouder of that than anything I have ever done," he said. "This deal is about what comes next. The Overlap has the ambition, the credibility, and the resources to help me take what I do to the next level."

The acquisition comes months after Global, a media and entertainment company, purchased a majority stake in The Overlap in January. Industry observers see the move as part of a broader trend of traditional media figures partnering with independent content creators to capture younger audiences.

Notably, Neville has previously been critical of fan-driven YouTube channels. In 2017, he called ArsenalFanTV "embarrassing" following a defeat to Chelsea, though he later appeared on the channel to clarify his comments. Whether Goldbridge's sometimes incendiary takes will test Neville's relationship with the club he served with such distinction remains to be seen. Current Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick, a former teammate of Neville's, has stated he is unbothered by the opinions of former players and does not expect the closer relationship to impact his squad.
