Ouattara equaliser denies Hull victory as Brentford earn 1-1 draw
Dango Ouattara scored a second-half equaliser as Brentford drew 1-1 with Hull at the MKM Stadium on Sunday, extending the hosts’ winless run to seven games. According to The Guardian’s match report, Hull preserved their unbeaten home record but could not turn Oli McBurnie’s first-half penalty into a victory, with both sides creating further opportunities after the visitors drew level.
Watch the highlights:
Brentford threatened first when Aaron Hickey took advantage of a Hull midfield lapse in the 11th minute, although his effort was comfortably saved by Konstantinos Tzolakis. Hull later worked an opening through Mohamed Belloumi, who found McBurnie in the penalty area. Mathias Jensen intervened before the striker could get his shot away, keeping the game goalless at that stage.
Hickey then conceded the penalty that gave Hull the lead. After failing to gather a ball from goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, he brought down Tim Iroegbunam while attempting to clear. McBurnie converted in the 24th minute, sending the ball into the bottom-right corner beyond Kelleher, who went the correct way. The Guardian reported that it was McBurnie’s first Premier League goal in more than 900 days.
Hull held that advantage until the 63rd minute, when Igor Thiago supplied Ouattara for Brentford’s equaliser. With little defensive pressure on him, Ouattara finished to bring the visitors back into the contest. The goal left Hull needing to score again if they were to end their sequence without a win, having led from midway through the first half.
Jaidon Anthony subsequently threatened to put Brentford ahead. One attempt went narrowly wide and another required a save from Tzolakis, keeping the score at 1-1. Hull also had an opportunity on the counterattack as Belloumi carried the ball towards the visitors’ goal, with substitute Mohamed-Ali Cho supporting him, but Belloumi’s shot from distance went over the bar.
Hull’s final chance to take all three points arrived in the 88th minute. Cho delivered a cross for Joe Gelhardt, whose effort missed the target. Neither side found a winner, leaving Hull with another point at home but no breakthrough in their search for a victory.
