O'Sullivan Thumps Table as Higgins Fights Back in Thrilling Crucible Clash
Ronnie O'Sullivan produced a moment of raw emotion at the Crucible Theatre on Saturday, dramatically thumping the table during his World Snooker Championship semifinal against John Higgins, before the Scot launched a stunning comeback attempt that breathed new life into the tie.
The seven-time world champion had built a commanding four-frame lead after the opening session, showcasing the devastating form that has made him the tournament favourite. However, Higgins, showing the fighting spirit that has defined his career, refused to capitulate and mounted a stirring fightback in the evening session.
O'Sullivan's table-thumping incident occurred after a missed pot that cost him a chance to extend his advantage further. The Rocket slammed his hand down on the green baize in visible frustration, a rare display of emotion from the usually composed champion.
Higgins capitalized on his rival's moment of frustration, winning three consecutive frames to reduce the deficit. The 45-year-old Scot compiled breaks of 78, 64, and 71 during his revival, transforming what appeared to be a one-sided contest into a genuine battle.
Speaking after the session, O'Sullivan acknowledged his frustration but remained focused on the task ahead. "It's a long match. I let my emotions get the better of me for a moment, but I need to reset and come back strong tomorrow," he said.
O'Sullivan still holds a narrow advantage heading into the final session, but Higgins' revival has set up a dramatic conclusion to this semifinal tie. The winner will face either Mark Selby or Kyren Wilson in the final.
