O'Sullivan Rolls the Dice with Two-Cue Strategy at World Championship Leaving Fans Puzzled
Seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan has introduced a controversial two-cue technique at the 2026 World Championship, puzzling spectators and sparking debate about whether the master is experimenting or losing his edge.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has stunned the snooker world by using two cues simultaneously during practice sessions at the Crucible Theatre, a technique that has left fans and fellow professionals scratching their heads as the 2026 World Championship gets underway.

The enigmatic seven-time world champion was spotted in the practice room wielding two cues at once, a sight that even veteran observers of the sport have never witnessed at this level. O'Sullivan, known for his revolutionary contributions to technique, claims the unconventional approach is part of his ongoing quest for perfection.

'I call it the roll of the dice,' O'Sullivan explained with characteristic cryptic charm. 'Sometimes you need to see the game from a different angle. Two cues give you a different perspective - literally and figuratively. It's about understanding geometry in a way most players never consider.'

The technique involves positioning a second cue parallel to the striking cue during certain shots, apparently to help visualize ball paths and angles. While clearly impractical during actual competition, O'Sullivan insists it has transformed his practice routines and subsequently his match performance.

Former world champion Steve Davis was among those left bewildered. 'I've seen Ronnie do some strange things over the years, but this takes the cake,' Davis remarked. 'Then again, he probably knows something we don't. He usually does.'

Other professionals have offered mixed reactions. Mark Selby expressed cautious curiosity: 'If anyone can make something like this work, it's Ronnie. But I can't imagine it helping during actual frames. Maybe it's just his way of staying mentally engaged?'

O'Sullivan's first-round match against qualifier David Gilbert begins on Saturday. Whether the two-cue technique translates to competitive success remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - the sporting world will be watching to see if the 'Rocket' can roll yet another dice and come up trumps at the Crucible.
