Morgan-Williams double helps Ospreys mark St Helen's return with derby win
Ospreys celebrated their return to St Helen's with victory over Dragons on Saturday, extending their winning run to three matches and completing a United Rugby Championship double over their Welsh rivals. BBC Sport Wales reported that 5,592 supporters attended the homecoming in wind and rain, with scrum-half Reuben Morgan-Williams scoring twice as Mark Jones' side moved through another successful derby.
Watch the highlights:
The 24 October fixture marked an important stage in Ospreys' move back to the Swansea ground, where redevelopment remains under way. The team played in Bridgend during the 2025-26 season. Work on the venue had continued ahead of the return, and further improvements are planned before Cardiff visit, with the facility still being developed around the home schedule.
Head coach Jones said the occasion had placed pressure on his players to make a strong first impression. He praised their skill in difficult conditions, defensive work and set-piece performance. Wales wing Keelan Giles, who had played at the ground in school finals and for Swansea, said he had never previously appeared there in front of such a large crowd and welcomed the atmosphere.
Morgan-Williams combined with fly-half Dan Edwards to direct Ospreys in the wet conditions. The 28-year-old's two tries came before his departure for Wales duty, which will make him unavailable for the Cardiff match. He earned his third international cap from the bench against South Africa in the summer and is part of the squad alongside Dragons scrum-half Che Hope.
BBC Sport Wales described Morgan-Williams as the leading candidate to serve as Tomos Williams' deputy during the Nations Championship, with Ospreys team-mate Kieran Hardy injured. That role has not been confirmed. Jones praised Morgan-Williams' consistency and commitment to improving, saying the scrum-half had earned his international opportunity and would be ready if called upon by Wales.
Ospreys sit seventh in the URC table and have already completed their South African double-header, with one round remaining in the opening block before the Nations Championship break. Dragons coach Filo Tiatia, meanwhile, acknowledged that his side had been second best in most areas of the derby and had performed below their capabilities.
