Ospreys Sign Former Wallabies Wing Marika Koroibete

BBC Sport reports that Ospreys have signed former Australia wing Marika Koroibete for the 2026-27 United Rugby Championship season. The 34-year-old becomes the Swansea-based club's fourth Australian recruit of the summer as head coach Mark Jones continues to reshape his squad.

Koroibete arrives after five seasons with Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan. His international record includes 63 appearances for the Wallabies and 20 Test tries, with his most recent Australia cap coming against New Zealand in September 2024. He also represented Australia at the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.

The winger's career began in rugby league after he was spotted in Fiji by NRL scouts. He went on to play for Wests Tigers and Melbourne Storm before changing codes in 2016, then made his Australia rugby union debut the following year. BBC Sport also reported that he played for the ANZAC XV against the British and Irish Lions in 2025.

Koroibete said he was pleased to join Ospreys after hearing positive accounts of the team and its environment. He described joining the club as a privilege and said his conversation with Jones clarified what would be expected from him on and off the field. He also said he would take pride in helping the squad's younger players develop.

His arrival continues an Australian recruitment drive at Ospreys. Lock Ryan Smith had already made an impression during the 2025-26 campaign, while Jones has also brought in former Wallabies captain Liam Wright, nine-cap centre Lalakai Foketi and versatile back Lawson Creighton. Koroibete is the fourth Australian to follow Smith to the club.

Jones said Ospreys were delighted to add an explosive player of Koroibete's calibre and believes the winger's experience can benefit the club's younger players. The team is scheduled to face Coventry in a friendly on Friday, September 4, before opening its URC campaign away to the Sharks on Saturday, September 26.
