Olly Stone Takes Five as Nottinghamshire Draw at Warwickshire

Olly Stone took five wickets on his return to Edgbaston as Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire drew a rain-disrupted County Championship match. Nottinghamshire declared on 325 for eight before dismissing the hosts for 185 on the fourth day, but the loss of two of the first three days left too little time for either side to force a result.

The ECB Reporters' Network, in a report published by BBC Sport, said Stone finished with five for 49 against his former county. The fast bowler struck three times during a seven-over opening spell, removing Rob Yates and Sam Hain leg before wicket before Will Young edged behind to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

Nottinghamshire had resumed their first innings with the opportunity to secure another batting bonus point. Joe Clarke took a single from the first delivery of the day and went on to reach 150 before edging George Bamber to second slip. The visitors then declared, with Isaac Sheat unbeaten on 45, denying Warwickshire a third bowling point.

Stone's early burst helped Nottinghamshire collect their first bowling point within 13 overs. Dillon Penington added the wicket of Dan Mousley, leaving Warwickshire 64 for four at lunch, while Vansh Jani was later run out after backing up too far at the non-striker's end. Ben Martindale then trapped Ed Barnard leg before wicket.

Michael Booth made 46 and Jordan Thompson contributed 26 as Warwickshire attempted to recover. Stone dismissed Alex Davies, caught behind, and completed the ninth five-wicket haul of his first-class career when Thompson was bowled. Liam Patterson-White held a return catch from Booth, and Lyndon James' running catch at mid-on gave Sheat his first Nottinghamshire wicket to complete the innings.

The draw delivered 13 points to Nottinghamshire and 10 to Warwickshire, keeping both teams involved near the front of the title race. Stone has now collected 15 wickets across his past three innings following a 10-wicket match haul against Surrey. Both counties return to Championship action on Wednesday, when Nottinghamshire host Leicestershire and Warwickshire travel to face Hampshire.
