Olivia Smith equaliser earns Arsenal draw as Birmingham extend winless run
Olivia Smith cancelled out Océane Hurtré's opener in a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have now gone five Women's Super League matches without a victory.

Olivia Smith's second-half equaliser earned Arsenal a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, but their search for another Women's Super League victory continued. Océane Hurtré had put the visitors ahead before Smith struck from 20 yards, according to Arsenal's official match report.

Watch the highlights:

The result extended Arsenal's winless league run to five matches and left them with six points from six games, dave.sport reported. Their opening-day victory at Brighton remains their only WSL success this season. Birmingham, meanwhile, secured their first away point of the campaign. Arsenal had selected Smith, Alessia Russo, Stina Blackstenius and Lisa Baum together in an attacking line-up.

Arsenal created chances before the interval without breaking through. Their club report described Sophie Baggaley saving a long-range effort from Kyra Cooney-Cross, while Blackstenius missed the target after being found by Smith. Russo then met Leah Williamson's cross with a diving header that struck the post, keeping the teams level at half-time.

Smilla Holmberg shot over early in the second half before Birmingham took the lead on the counter-attack. Hurtré advanced towards goal, drew Misa Rodríguez out and finished into the bottom corner. Baggaley subsequently protected the advantage with a close-range save from Baum's header, denying Arsenal an immediate route back into the match.

Smith finally beat Baggaley with a shot into the top corner, and Arsenal's report said the goalkeeper later stopped Lotte Wubben-Moy from converting Holmberg's free-kick delivery. The goals came in the 53rd and 66th minutes, with Neve Herron supplying Hurtré and Georgia Stanway assisting Smith, according to dave.sport's account of the match.

The draw was Arsenal's third in three home league matches this season, following a goalless meeting with Crystal Palace and a 1-1 result against Manchester United. Defeats at Chelsea and Manchester City also form part of their five-game winless sequence, dave.sport reported. Smith's intervention prevented a third successive league defeat, but Arsenal were again unable to turn a home fixture into three points.
