Olise double seals late France comeback against Belgium
Michael Olise scored twice and created another goal as France recovered from a first-half deficit to beat Belgium 4-1 at the Stade de France on Monday. Reuters reported that all four French goals came from substitutes, with the comeback keeping Zinedine Zidane's team at the top of Nations League Group A1.
Watch the highlights:
Belgium went ahead in the 35th minute when Romeo Lavia's pass released Dodi Lukebakio behind the French defence. According to Football.fr's match report, the move caught out the central pairing of Leny Yoro and Maxence Lacroix, and Lukebakio beat goalkeeper Guillaume Restes on his international debut. France had been unable to turn their earlier attacking opportunities into a goal.
Football.fr reported that Esteban Lepaul had failed to finish chances in the ninth, 23rd and 33rd minutes, while Bradley Barcola had also missed an opportunity to make an impact down the left. Ousmane Dembele threatened again early in the second half before being replaced, with France still needing an equaliser as the match entered its closing stages.
Desire Doue finally levelled in the 77th minute after receiving the ball from fellow substitute Lucas Da Cunha. Olise then supplied Rayan Cherki for the lead in the 81st minute. His own goals followed in the 88th minute and stoppage time, the latter a finish between goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt's legs, completing the scoring sequence described by Football.fr.
The result continued Olise's decisive contribution during the international window. Reuters reported that he finished the four-match gathering with four goals and two assists, despite starting only twice. He had also scored the late winner in France's 1-0 victory away to Belgium the previous Monday, making this another meeting in which his contribution proved decisive.
France now have 10 points, three more than Italy, whose 3-1 win over Turkey kept them second, according to Reuters. Belgium remain on six points and Turkey have none. France will complete their group programme in November with a trip to Italy and a home match against Turkey as they pursue a quarter-final place.
