Odegaard Hails Arsenal Newcomers After Community Shield Win
Martin Odegaard praised Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis after both made an immediate impact in Arsenal's Community Shield victory over Manchester City. The captain says the Premier League champions want more trophies this season.

Martin Odegaard has praised Arsenal newcomers Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis after their influential displays in Sunday's Community Shield victory over Manchester City. The Guardian reported that Arsenal surged into a 3-0 lead inside 48 minutes in Cardiff, giving the Premier League champions an emphatic result before their title defence begins against promoted Coventry on Friday night.

Watch the highlights:

Tzolis, signed from Club Brugge for £34m, supplied two assists. He created Arsenal's second goal for Kai Havertz and then set up Odegaard for the third shortly after half-time. Guimaraes, a £75m arrival from Newcastle, delivered a commanding first start before Declan Rice replaced him at the interval. Both players therefore made visible contributions in their first major domestic fixture with the club.

Odegaard told the Guardian that Guimaraes had settled naturally from his first day, despite the competitive battles Arsenal's players had previously experienced against him. The captain highlighted the Brazil midfielder's ability to win the ball, compete physically and remain composed in possession. He also welcomed Tzolis's early productivity, describing it as positive to see new players performing immediately.

The match also gave Odegaard an encouraging personal start after an injury-disrupted campaign. He began only 16 Premier League matches last season and scored once. The 27-year-old said missing so many games had been frustrating, but he has tried to turn those experiences into motivation to become stronger and contribute more goals and assists. His own Community Shield goal provided an early return.

Odegaard had rediscovered form with Norway during the summer as his country reached the World Cup quarter-finals. He now returns to club football with Arsenal defending the league title and looking beyond a single competition. The captain said the team wanted to demonstrate its level against City and stressed that last season's championship has not reduced its appetite for further success.

Arsenal's next test comes quickly, with Coventry visiting on Friday for the opening league fixture. Odegaard said the champions want to win the league again while also pursuing the other trophies available to them. He also acknowledged that there remains room for improvement. The Community Shield display supplied an early benchmark, while the first league match will begin the longer measure of whether Arsenal's reinforced squad can sustain those ambitions.
