Nwaneri helps Dortmund complete dramatic comeback at Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 on Saturday, completing the comeback with four minutes of regular time remaining. The Guardian and agencies reported that Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri created the decisive moment when his shot took a major deflection off Hoffenheim defender Albian Hajdari and went into the net as an own goal.

Hoffenheim had controlled the contest for much of the opening hour. Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle supplied the goals that put the home side 2-0 ahead after 54 minutes, leaving Dortmund with a steep recovery to make away from home.

Dortmund's response began shortly after the hour through striker Serhou Guirassy. Five minutes later, Guirassy set up Fabio Silva for the equaliser, turning what had looked like a comfortable Hoffenheim advantage into a level match with the final stages still to play.

Nwaneri had entered after half an hour when Filippo Mane was forced off with an injury. The 19-year-old, who joined Dortmund from Arsenal on a season-long loan on deadline day, then played the central role in the late winner. He advanced down the left before shooting toward the centre, where Hajdari's deflection redirected the ball past the defence.

The comeback was one of several eventful Bundesliga results on Saturday. Top-flight newcomers Elversberg recovered from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Felix Keidel made it 3-3 with 10 minutes remaining before Maurice Krattenmacher scored his second goal of the match in stoppage time, despite Elversberg manager Vincent Wagner having been sent off for a second yellow card before halftime.

Bayer Leverkusen also responded to their previous defeat against Elversberg by beating Union Berlin 4-0 at home. Equi Fernández and Facundo Medina scored before halftime, Jarell Quansah set up Patrik Schick for the third, and Ibrahim Maza added a late fourth. Elsewhere, Niclas Füllkrug scored as Werder Bremen beat RB Leipzig 3-1, while Freiburg maintained a perfect start with a 1-0 away victory over promoted Paderborn.
