Northampton Seek Common Ground in Henry Pollock Contract Talks

Northampton Saints are working to find a financially workable agreement with England flanker Henry Pollock as discussions continue over his future at the club. Director of rugby Phil Dowson said negotiations were progressing and stressed that Northampton want to keep the 21-year-old, according to reporting by The Guardian on Wednesday.

Pollock’s existing Northampton contract runs through the end of the 2026-27 season. The Guardian reported that he is believed to earn about £150,000 per season at club level. His representative, Eddie Hearn, has argued that Pollock’s profile could justify annual pay of £1 million and suggested the player might earn roughly 10 times his reported current salary by moving elsewhere. Those figures remain Hearn’s valuation rather than the terms of an agreed offer.

Dowson’s public position was that the parties share important objectives. He said Pollock wants to remain with Saints, compete for trophies alongside the current playing group and pursue a World Cup with England. Northampton, the reigning Premiership champions, also want him to stay, leaving the financial structure as the central issue in the talks.

The club must weigh that ambition against the cost of assembling its full squad. Dowson said his responsibility is to fit 57 or 58 players within Northampton’s budget, and that decisions must reflect what the club can afford. The Guardian reported that Northampton operate with a self-imposed budget significantly below the Premiership salary cap ceiling, making a seven-figure club salary for one player appear difficult.

Pollock has won 13 England caps, although only one has come as a starter. He is also among 25 England players who receive an enhanced national contract worth £150,000. Hearn’s case rests partly on the player’s commercial profile, while Dowson acknowledged that the representative’s job is to promote his client and seek improved terms.

For now, there is no completed extension and no indication that Pollock has agreed to leave. Dowson described continued discussions involving agents, the wider group and Northampton’s decision-makers. The confirmed position is that club and player want to continue together, but the final terms still have to fit a squad-wide financial plan.
