Nmecha double keeps Dortmund level with Bayern as Leipzig score five
Felix Nmecha scored twice as Borussia Dortmund beat Elversberg 2-1 to stay level on points with Bayern Munich. RB Leipzig remained three points behind after a 5-2 victory over Augsburg.

Borussia Dortmund kept pace with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga after Felix Nmecha scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over promoted Elversberg on Saturday. According to the Guardian's European football roundup, Dortmund and Bayern finished their matches with 21 points from nine games, with Bayern retaining first place on goal difference.

Watch the highlights:

Nmecha's double secured the points in a match that the Guardian reported had given Dortmund a scare. The result matched Bayern's 2-1 win at Mainz, leaving neither of the leading pair with a points advantage. Behind them, third-placed RB Leipzig won 5-2 at home against Augsburg to remain three points short of the leaders.

Bayern's victory featured two assists from Harry Kane, who did not score himself. Joshua Kimmich and 18-year-old Lennart Karl were the goalscorers as Bayern took their unbeaten sequence in away league matches to 31. The win kept them ahead of Dortmund in the table, although an injury to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer complicated his record-breaking appearance.

Neuer became Bayern's oldest player at 40 years and 225 days, surpassing Bernd Dreher. He was replaced by Jonas Urbig before half-time after a recurrence of the foot injury that had recently kept him out. With Bayern leading 1-0, Neuer had failed to deal with a cross and Lee Jae-sung put the ball into the net, but the apparent Mainz equaliser was disallowed for offside.

Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt rescued a point through Jonathan Burkardt's equaliser in the 93rd minute at Paderborn. That intervention made the final score 2-2 in a meeting between two teams in mid-table. Frankfurt's late goal contrasted with the early breakthrough that decided Stuttgart's match against Werder Bremen, another fixture covered in the Guardian's roundup.

Maximilian Mittelstädt scored early for Stuttgart, and his goal proved enough for a 1-0 victory. The defeat meant Bremen missed an opportunity to move into the top four. Alongside Leipzig's five-goal home win and the narrow victories for Bayern and Dortmund, the result completed a Saturday programme that left Bayern and Dortmund together on points at the summit.
