Nine-man Carlisle beat Harrogate 3-0 to end visitors’ winning run
Carlisle United overcame two early red cards to beat Harrogate Town 3-0. The result ended Harrogate’s five-game winning run and drew criticism from manager Simon Weaver.

Carlisle United beat Harrogate Town 3-0 at Brunton Park despite having two players sent off inside the opening half-hour, BBC Sport reported. The National League victory came against a visiting side that had won five consecutive games and entered the match second in the table, 10 places and 11 points ahead of Carlisle.

Watch the highlights:

Carlisle had already taken an early lead when midfielder Miguel Azeez, the former Arsenal player, was dismissed after 14 minutes. Their position became more difficult in the 30th minute, when fellow midfielder Harvey Bunker also received a straight red card. Those dismissals left Rob Elliot's team facing the final hour with only nine players against an opponent enjoying a strong run of results.

Harrogate were unable to turn that advantage into a comeback. Instead, Carlisle extended their lead immediately after half-time while still two players short, then added another goal to complete the 3-0 result. Having established their initial advantage before the dismissals, the home side scored twice more after losing both midfielders and finished without conceding.

Harrogate manager and co-owner Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York that he was embarrassed by his team's performance. He said the visitors had allowed their recent success to affect their approach, suggesting they had become too convinced by the praise surrounding their winning run. That sequence ended against a Carlisle side which had started the game considerably below them in the standings.

Weaver said the responsibility had been on Harrogate to demonstrate their quality in possession once Carlisle were reduced first to 10 players and then to nine. In his assessment, they fell well below the standards they had established earlier in the season and failed to handle the situation. He also credited Carlisle, saying the hosts deserved their victory, while stressing that his own team's display needed scrutiny.

The defeat left Harrogate 10 points behind National League leaders Boreham Wood, according to the BBC's report. Their next fixture is away to Forest Green on Saturday, following a loss in which a two-player advantage for an hour could not prevent a three-goal defeat.
