Newcastle unveil £190m plan for new Woolsington training base
Newcastle United plan to move into a new £190m training facility at Woolsington Hall for the start of the 2029-30 season. The project remains subject to planning permission.

Newcastle United have announced plans for a new £190 million training facility at Woolsington Hall, near Newcastle airport. The club intend to move into the new base for the start of the 2029-30 season, subject to receiving planning permission, according to reporting by The Guardian.

Watch the highlights:

The announcement was made on Thursday and sets out a long-term replacement for Newcastle's current training ground in the Benton area of the city. No construction timetable beyond the targeted opening season was detailed in the report, and the planning process must still be completed before the proposed move can go ahead.

Head coach Matthias Jaissle welcomed the project and described the planned base as a world-class facility that would reflect Newcastle's ambitions. Jaissle said he currently spends most of his time at the Benton site and regards it as his home while settling into his role, but believes the Woolsington development will establish a new standard for the club.

The 38-year-old German is only two weeks into the job after succeeding Eddie Howe. Jaissle previously managed RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli before taking charge at Newcastle, and the training-ground announcement gives him a significant piece of longer-term infrastructure to point to while his immediate work remains focused on the first team.

Jaissle is also overseeing a squad that has placed substantial responsibility on several young summer arrivals. He named Bazoumana Touré, Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur among the players who have his full confidence, while acknowledging that the team has not yet reached its full potential and is expected to make at least one more signing.

For now, Newcastle will continue operating from Benton while the Woolsington Hall plan advances through the required approvals. The projected move is still three seasons away, and the report did not specify when building work could begin, making planning permission the key next step before the £190 million proposal can become a construction project.
