Gary Neville's The Overlap Acquires Mark Goldbridge's YouTube Empire in Seven-Figure Deal
The Overlap has purchased Manchester United influencer Mark Goldbridge's two YouTube channels in a seven-figure deal, bringing together two of football's biggest independent media voices.

Gary Neville's The Overlap has completed a major acquisition in the football media space, purchasing Manchester United influencer Mark Goldbridge's YouTube channels for an undisclosed seven-figure sum. The deal brings together two of football's most recognisable independent media presences in a move that signals a new era for fan-driven content.

Goldbridge's flagship channel, The United Stand, boasts 2.26 million YouTube subscribers and built its reputation on live reaction videos to Manchester United matches. His second channel, That's Football, caters to a broader football audience and commands a further 1.46 million subscribers. Together with social media followings across TikTok, Instagram, X and Facebook, The United Stand alone carries a combined 4.4 million followers, while That's Football has accumulated nearly 350,000.

The Overlap, founded by former Manchester United and England defender Neville in 2021, has grown into a significant force in football content, producing podcasts, videos, and social media output. Its own YouTube channel counts 1.66 million subscribers, with its flagship show Stick to Football featuring Neville alongside Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, and Ian Wright.

"We are building what we believe will become one of the most exciting independent football communities in the world — one that gives fans direct, personality-led content," said Neville, The Overlap's executive director. "The United Stand and That's Football are two of the best-known football channels on YouTube, and our intention is to develop them into the most compelling Manchester United and football news channels in the market."

Under new ownership, Goldbridge's channels are set for significant editorial expansion. The Overlap plans to introduce a Stick to United strand featuring former players and journalists, alongside a Daily United news show, deepening and broadening coverage of the club.

For Goldbridge — real name Brent di Cesare — the deal marks a new chapter after a decade spent building his brand on unfiltered, passionate takes on all things Manchester United. "This deal is about what comes next," he said. "The Overlap has the ambition, the credibility, and the resources to help me take what I do to the next level."

Scott Melvin, executive director of The Overlap, echoed the optimism: "Mark has built two of the biggest audiences in this space, and this deal accelerates everything we are building towards."

The acquisition places The Overlap in a uniquely powerful position within football media. In January, Global — the media and entertainment company — acquired a majority stake in the outfit, lending institutional backing to its expansion ambitions. With a stated target of reaching 15 to 20 million fans across platforms worldwide, the consolidation of Goldbridge's channels represents a meaningful step in that direction.

Goldbridge made waves last year when he became one of the first content creators to secure live rights for top-flight European football, being named among the rights holders for live Bundesliga matches during the 2025-26 season — a landmark for independent creators in sport.

Whether the partnership can balance Goldbridge's famously blunt criticism of Manchester United — one of his most appealing traits to his audience — with Neville's deep affection for the club, remains a fascinating open question. The commercial logic is compelling, and the football world is watching closely.
