Nelly Korda Sets 36-Hole Scoring Record at Chevron Championship
Nelly Korda has broken the 36-hole scoring record at the Chevron Championship, reaching 14-under par after two rounds to establish a commanding lead at the first major of the year.

Nelly Korda has rewritten the record books at the Chevron Championship, firing a spectacular second-round performance that gave her the lowest 36-hole score in the tournament's history.

The American star followed up her opening-round 65 with a sizzling 67 on Friday, reaching 14-under par through two rounds at Carlton Woods and establishing a three-stroke lead over her nearest competitor. Korda's total of 132 breaks the previous record set by Patty Berg in 1954.

"I knew I was playing well, but you never expect to be setting records like this," Korda said after her round. "The conditions were perfect today, and I was able to be aggressive on the par-5s and make some really important putts."

Korda's round featured five birdies against just two bogeys, with her highlight being a 25-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole that pushed her clear of the field. Her distance control with her irons has been particularly impressive, ranking among the leaders in proximity to the hole through two rounds.

The World No. 5 is seeking her first major championship title and her third victory of the season, having already won the Drive On Championship and the Founders Cup earlier this year. Her current form suggests she may finally be ready to breakthrough at the biggest events.

Fellow American Lilia Yu sits second at 11-under par, with defending champion Inbee Park four shots back at 10-under. Multiple major winner Lydia Ko also remains in contention at 9-under par, though she will need a historic weekend performance to catch Korda.

The Chevron Championship marks the beginning of the major season and serves as the first of five professional women's golf majors this year. Korda's record-breaking performance has drawn comparisons to some of the greatest rounds in major championship history.

"I'm trying not to think about winning yet," Korda added. "There are 36 holes left, and a lot can happen. I just need to stick to my process and trust that if I play well, the result will take care of itself."
