Nashville clinch first Supporters' Shield with 2-0 win in Montreal
Nashville SC secured the first Supporters' Shield in their history on Saturday, October 24, beating CF Montreal 2-0 at Stade Saputo. According to the club's match report, second-half goals from Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar sealed the trophy awarded to Major League Soccer's regular-season points leaders, with three matches still to play.
Watch the highlights:
The victory took Nashville to 70 points from 31 games, with 21 wins, three defeats and seven draws. Nashville said clinching the Shield with three fixtures remaining matched the league's earliest title-clinching mark. The club also reported that it was the first MLS side to reach 70 points through 31 matches, underlining the pace of its campaign.
Surridge broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute. WTVF's NewsChannel 5 reported that Reed Baker-Whiting supplied a cross from the left and goalkeeper Samsy Keita stopped the initial header, only for Surridge to score from the rebound. Keita, 17, was making his MLS debut and became the youngest player to start a match for Montreal.
Mukhtar added the second goal in the 76th minute after intercepting a misplaced pass and beating Keita one-on-one, WTVF reported. Nashville's own account put Mukhtar on 17 league goals, including seven in his past six appearances. He has now scored in six successive MLS matches for the first time, while Surridge leads the club with 18 regular-season goals.
The result also brought Brian Schwake his 14th league clean sheet of the season, a Nashville club record. Nashville's next match is at home to Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, October 28. The club's report lists kickoff at GEODIS Park for 7:30 p.m. Central Time.
Beyond the trophy, Nashville have secured home-field advantage throughout the MLS Cup Playoffs and a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup, according to WTVF. Their opening playoff opponent will be the winner of the Eastern Conference wild-card meeting between the eighth and ninth seeds. The Shield follows Nashville's 2025 U.S. Open Cup triumph, giving the club major silverware in consecutive seasons.
