Muriqi winner gives Fenerbahce 3-2 comeback victory over Liverpool
Fenerbahce twice recovered from a goal down before Vedat Muriqi sealed a 3-2 Champions League victory. Liverpool's perfect start in Europe ended on a winning night for interim coach Dirk Kuyt.

Fenerbahce beat Liverpool 3-2 in Istanbul on Wednesday, November 4, with Vedat Muriqi scoring the decisive goal in the 79th minute after the visitors had led twice. Sky Sports reported that the result ended Liverpool's winning start to the Champions League league phase and gave Fenerbahce their first victory of this European campaign, under interim coach Dirk Kuyt.

Watch the highlights:

Trey Nyoni opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a deflected effort that beat Ederson, registering his first Liverpool goal. The advantage lasted only four minutes. Mason Greenwood equalised with a free-kick that struck Jeremy Jacquet on its way past Alisson, leaving the teams level after two goals altered by deflections.

Liverpool regained the lead in the 69th minute when substitute Alexander Isak headed in Cody Gakpo's cross. According to Sky Sports, Isak scored with his first touch after coming on. But the visitors again failed to hold their advantage: Archie Brown equalised in the 73rd minute, before Muriqi's header completed the turnaround six minutes later.

BBC Sport reported that Brown's equaliser followed a Gakpo header that carried the ball beyond Alisson, leaving the Fenerbahce player to finish from close range. Brown then supplied the looping delivery from which Muriqi headed the winner. All three home goals originated from set-pieces, with Liverpool unable to prevent the final two arriving during a decisive spell late in the second half.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola criticised the goals his team conceded and said the stadium noise made communication difficult, both when he tried to pass on instructions and between players. The defeat followed Sunday's loss to Arsenal, leaving Liverpool with two defeats in four days after a run of five consecutive wins, according to the BBC's account.

For Kuyt, the victory came against a club he represented for six years after joining in 2006. He said he had urged Fenerbahce's players to remain united, drawing on lessons from his time at Liverpool. BBC Sport reported that his interim spell would now end, with Emre Belozoglu officially taking over as head coach on Thursday.
