Muniz strikes back as Fulham hold Newcastle to 1-1 draw
Rodrigo Muniz cancelled out Jacob Murphy’s late opener at Craven Cottage, earning Fulham a point after a match in which both goalkeepers made important saves.

Rodrigo Muniz came off the bench to earn Fulham a 1-1 Premier League draw against Newcastle United at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Jacob Murphy had put the visitors ahead with a long-range strike, but their lead lasted less than three minutes before the home side responded, according to Flashscore’s match report.

Watch the highlights:

Fulham created early opportunities without finding a breakthrough. The Irish News reported that Oscar Bobb forced Lukas Hornicek into a save after Dan Burn failed to clear, before Gonzalo Garcia headed onto the top of the crossbar from the ensuing corner. Newcastle initially defended deep, restricting the space available to the hosts while offering limited attacking threat themselves.

The visitors nevertheless troubled Bernd Leno through Harvey Barnes, who was denied twice by the Fulham goalkeeper. Burn then put the ball in the net following a corner, but the effort was ruled out for a foul by Yoane Wissa. At the other end, Josh King tested Hornicek with a volley and later headed Alex Iwobi’s cross wide, The Irish News reported.

Chances continued after the interval, with Barnes sending an effort wide and Sander Berge narrowly missing for Fulham. Flashscore reported that Newcastle subsequently built a spell of pressure before Murphy broke the deadlock. The winger created room against Iwobi, moved inside and struck beyond Leno to give the visitors a late advantage.

Muniz supplied the response after Cesar Palacios’ pass reached him in the penalty area. His improvised finish went in off Burn, with Flashscore timing the gap between the goals at two minutes and 58 seconds. Newcastle still had an opportunity to regain the lead, but Lewis Hall’s late attempt was gathered by Leno.

Fulham also threatened to turn the draw into a win. The Irish News reported that Hornicek saved a long-range effort from Ryan Sessegnon in stoppage time, keeping Newcastle level through the closing stages. Alvaro Arbeloa had introduced Muniz in the 65th minute while seeking a breakthrough; the substitute instead ensured that Murphy’s goal did not leave the hosts empty-handed.
