Muchova and Mensik Claim US Open Mixed Doubles Title

Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik won the 2026 US Open mixed doubles title after beating Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 in the final. BBC Sport reported that Mensik completed the victory with a 131mph ace on the Czech pair’s third championship point.

The title was the first Grand Slam triumph for both Muchova and Mensik. Their win also brought $1 million in prize money, according to the BBC report. The pair had not played doubles together before this week, while 20-year-old Mensik had never previously competed in mixed doubles.

Their path to the trophy included a narrow semi-final against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev. Muchova and Mensik saved two match points before prevailing 5-4 (8-6), 3-5, 11-9. Both semi-finals were settled by a 10-point tie-break under the competition’s shortened format.

Bencic and Cobolli reached the final by defeating Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils 10-5 in their semi-final tie-break. That result ended the married couple’s bid to become the first husband-and-wife team to win a Grand Slam mixed doubles championship since 1939. The BBC noted that Monfils is due to retire at the end of the season.

Muchova’s victory came a little more than six weeks after she lost to fellow Czech Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon final. The 30-year-old had not played since undergoing what she described as a small surgery. Mensik arrived in New York after reaching the French Open semi-finals earlier in the year.

The mixed doubles event was staged before the start of the US Open singles main draw, which begins on Sunday. All eight mixed doubles semi-finalists are entered in the singles competition. The semi-finals and final were played during the night session, while the revised event offered a prize five times larger than under its previous format, BBC Sport reported.
