Moyes Reveals No Contact With Everton Owner Dan Friedkin

David Moyes has revealed that he has not spoken to Everton owner and chair Dan Friedkin during the 20 months since he returned to manage the Premier League club. The Guardian reported that Moyes confirmed the lack of contact on Friday while discussing Everton's ownership structure and a difficult conclusion to the summer transfer window.

Moyes replaced Sean Dyche in January 2025, after The Friedkin Group had taken control of Everton. According to the Guardian, Friedkin is the founder and chief executive of the ownership group, while TFG president Marc Watts serves as Everton's executive chair. Rishi Majithia, Friedkin's son-in-law, is described as the owner's day-to-day representative at the club.

The manager said successful clubs need alignment at senior level and suggested Everton's new owners were still learning their way around the organisation. When asked directly whether he had ever held a conversation with Friedkin or met him, Moyes answered no. The Guardian reported that chief executive Angus Kinnear is Moyes's main point of contact at Everton.

The disclosure followed a turbulent final phase of the transfer window. The Guardian said Everton initially decided to sell Harrison Armstrong to Nottingham Forest before reversing course following opposition from supporters. Moyes nevertheless ended the window with fewer options after Iliman Ndiaye, Beto, Tim Iroegbunam and Nathan Patterson were sold.

Moyes acknowledged that Everton do not have a large squad and said the club's circumstances would make the season difficult. He also argued that adversity could bring the team and its supporters together, expressing hope that the group could still produce something special despite being short of players. He recognised that managers are usually the first people held responsible when results suffer.

The Scot also underlined his personal connection to Everton, saying he would not have returned to management for another club. He described the transfer setback as a bump that must be overcome quickly and called on supporters to provide extra backing for the players. His comments leave the club's senior alignment and squad depth firmly in focus as Everton move forward after the window.
