Mooney and Devine steer Perth Scorchers to nine-wicket win over Renegades
Beth Mooney made an unbeaten 58 and Sophie Devine finished on 47 not out as Perth chased down Melbourne Renegades' 136-6 with 39 balls remaining.

Perth Scorchers beat Melbourne Renegades by nine wickets at the WACA in the Women's Big Bash League on Saturday, 31 October, with Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine completing the chase unbeaten. According to BBC Sport's match scorecard, Perth reached 138-1 in 13.3 overs after restricting Melbourne to 136-6, securing victory with 39 balls remaining.

Watch the highlights:

Mooney, captaining the Scorchers and keeping wicket, finished with 58 from 40 balls, including nine fours. Devine contributed 47 from 32 deliveries, striking four fours and three sixes. The pair put on an unbroken 124 for the second wicket after Katie Mack was bowled by Tayla Vlaeminck for nine, leaving Perth 14-1 in the third over. Melbourne took no further wickets as the chase ended well inside the allotted 20 overs.

The Scorchers had chosen to field and quickly reduced the Renegades to 20-4. Chloe Ainsworth dismissed Hayley Matthews for seven and Courtney Webb for six, while Fatima Sana removed Sophie Molineux for one. Alana King then trapped Tess Flintoff lbw for two. Those four wickets fell by the first ball of the sixth over, leaving Melbourne's middle order to rebuild.

Georgia Wareham and Nicole Faltum supplied that recovery with a fifth-wicket partnership of 109. Wareham led the scoring with 62 from 39 balls, hitting eight fours and a six before she was caught by Fatima off Devine at 129-5. Faltum made 48 from 49 deliveries, with four boundaries, before Fatima bowled her in the final over. Deandra Dottin and Chloe Tryon finished unbeaten on five and one respectively.

Ainsworth returned 2-22 from four overs, while Fatima took 2-27 and delivered a maiden. King finished with 1-35 from her four overs and Devine claimed 1-21 from three. Amy Edgar conceded 18 from three wicketless overs, and Lilly Mills returned 0-12 from two as Perth held Melbourne below 140 despite the substantial fifth-wicket stand.

Vlaeminck was Melbourne's only successful bowler, finishing with 1-29 from four overs. The Renegades also conceded 24 extras, comprising 15 wides, two no-balls and seven leg-byes. Those additional runs helped Perth's pursuit alongside the unbeaten contributions from Mooney and Devine, which carried the Scorchers to a comfortable result in the competition's fifth match.
