Montagliani tells staff he plans to seek another Concacaf term
Victor Montagliani intends to seek re-election at Concacaf in 2027, according to reporting by The Guardian. That would take him out of a challenge for the FIFA presidency.

Victor Montagliani has told Concacaf staff that he intends to seek re-election as president in 2027, according to The Guardian's reporting, also published by AOL. The decision would remove the Canadian executive from a potential contest against Gianni Infantino for the FIFA presidency.

Watch the highlights:

The report says Montagliani outlined his intentions at a staff town hall late in September. He is understood to have conveyed the same message to most of Concacaf's member associations, expressing a wish to continue working for football in the region despite calls for him to pursue FIFA's top post.

The two elections are close together. According to the report, Concacaf will hold its presidential vote in the first quarter of 2027, ahead of FIFA's election on March 18 in Rabat. The reported communication concerns his intentions; it is not an election result or confirmation that he has secured another mandate.

Concacaf's own records show that Montagliani's current four-year term covers 2023 to 2027. He was the only candidate when the confederation's member associations unanimously returned him by acclamation at their congress in Antigua Guatemala on February 25, 2023. Delegates from all 41 associations attended that gathering. The previous result establishes the term now approaching its conclusion, but does not determine the outcome of the next vote.

Montagliani first became Concacaf president in 2016 and was also re-elected in 2019, according to the confederation's official biography. Alongside his regional presidency, he serves as a FIFA vice-president and sits on the FIFA Council and its Bureau. His existing responsibilities therefore already span both Concacaf and world football's governing body, without his holding the FIFA presidency itself.

His tenure has included changes to the region's competition structure. Concacaf identifies the expansion of the Gold Cup, the introduction of the men's Nations League and revamped national-team calendars among developments under his leadership. Its biography dates the launch of the Nations League and the Concacaf W strategy for women's and girls' football to 2019. Those programmes form part of the regional record he would carry into another election.
