Miyu Yamashita Ties LPGA Scoring Record in Nine-Shot CPKC Win

Miyu Yamashita completed a record-setting week at the CPKC Women's Open on Sunday, closing with a four-under 66 to win by nine shots at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton. Sportsnet reported that the Japanese golfer finished 23 under par and led after every round, turning a six-shot overnight advantage into a runaway victory.

Her 72-hole total of 257 matched the LPGA Tour scoring record first set by Sei Young Kim at the 2018 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic. The result also gave Yamashita the CPKC Women's Open tournament scoring record, while her nine-shot winning margin was the largest in the history of Canada's national women's championship.

Yamashita ended the tournament with a birdie at the par-four 18th, completing a week that began with a course-record 62. She followed that opening round with scores of 64 and 65 before Sunday's 66. Sportsnet reported that the victory was the 25-year-old's fourth LPGA Tour title and her second in six starts, following her Meijer LPGA Classic win in July.

Canadian teenager Anna Huang produced the lowest final round of the day, shooting 65 and finishing tied for fourth. The performance earned her the Sandra Post Medal as the leading Canadian and secured a place in the following week's FM Championship through her top-10 finish. Sportsnet said it was Huang's best LPGA Tour result and made her the youngest recipient of low-Canadian honours at the event since Brooke Henderson in 2014.

Amateur Aphrodite Deng also finished inside the top 10, tying for seventh after a final-round 69. She claimed low-amateur honours for a second consecutive year. Seven Canadians made the cut at Royal Mayfair, the country's highest total at the national open since 1996.

Defending champion Henderson finished tied for 13th after an even-par final round that included an eagle at the fifth hole. For Yamashita, the decisive win added another title to a rapidly growing LPGA record and made her the first player since Jin Young Ko in 2019 to win the CPKC Women's Open on her tournament debut.
