Mikey Cohen joins Joey Evison in leaving promoted Kent

Kent have confirmed that bowler Mikey Cohen will leave at the end of the 2026 season, joining Joey Evison among the county's departures, BBC Sport reported on Monday. The squad changes follow a successful County Championship campaign in which Kent finished second in Division Two and secured promotion to the top flight.

Cohen, 28, arrived ahead of the 2024 season and qualified as a homegrown player through residency. The South African-born French bowler took 13 wickets in 11 appearances across all formats during his time with Kent, according to the BBC's report. His departure brings that spell with the county to a close.

Evison's move has followed a different timetable. Kent announced in July that the all-rounder would leave for Sussex after the season, before allowing him to join his new club early. Sussex confirmed on 26 August that he had arrived on loan for the remaining Championship fixtures, with his permanent transfer taking effect on 1 October.

The loan made the 24-year-old available for Sussex's final five Championship matches. He had also spent time with Leicestershire earlier in the summer, playing Division One cricket during a short-term loan. Sussex's announcement noted that his most recent first-class outing before arriving at Hove had been against Yorkshire, when he scored 55 and took a wicket.

Evison leaves behind a Kent career that began with a loan from Nottinghamshire in 2022, followed by a permanent move before the 2023 season. In its July announcement, Kent said he had made more than 100 appearances across formats and had helped the county win the One Day Cup in 2022.

Kent director of cricket Simon Cook said at the time that Evison wanted a new challenge. While expressing disappointment at losing him, Cook said the move would give other members of the squad opportunities to develop. Evison thanked Kent's supporters and identified the One Day Cup triumph as a particularly important memory.

BBC Sport reported that Sussex finished third in Division One despite a 12-point deduction for financial issues. Kent will join them in that division next season, while Evison is set to reunite with former Kent head coach Matt Walker, who takes over from Paul Farbrace at Sussex in 2027.
