Middlesex Rout Lancashire by 160 Runs Inside Three Days

Middlesex defeated Lancashire by 160 runs inside three days at Merchant Taylors' School after dismissing the visitors for 136 in their pursuit of 297. The BBC, carrying a report supplied by the ECB Reporters' Network, said Tom Helm led the home attack with 4-36 as Lancashire suffered their fourth loss in five matches.

Lancashire had briefly built a platform through captain Keaton Jennings and Matty Hurst, who shared a 57-run opening partnership. Both made 38, but the innings turned sharply after the visitors reached 97-3. Middlesex's seamers then took control, with Helm supported by Toby Roland-Jones, Naavya Sharma and Ryan Higgins, each of whom claimed two wickets.

The chase had offered Lancashire some encouragement before the collapse. Hurst was dropped in the slips off Sharma, while Jennings also received a reprieve against Higgins. Higgins eventually removed Jennings via a bat-pad catch at short leg, and Sharma followed with two wickets in two deliveries, dismissing Harry Singh and Marcus Harris.

Roland-Jones removed Rocky Flintoff for 11 after switching ends, before Helm broke Hurst's resistance with a rising delivery that produced a catch at slip. Helm then trapped Arav Shetty leg before and bowled George Balderson for a duck. Roland-Jones and Higgins combined for the last wicket when Roland-Jones ran back to catch Noman Ali's drive.

Earlier, Middlesex had been bowled out for 200 in their second innings after losing seven wickets for 40 runs. Balderson returned 5-54 and James Anderson took 3-56, exploiting a deteriorating pitch and heavy cloud after rain delayed the start by an hour. Max Holden top-scored with 51, while Roland-Jones added an important 37 from the lower order to push the target to 297.

Middlesex had made 247 in their first innings and restricted Lancashire to 151, establishing the advantage that shaped the contest. Helm also took four wickets in that innings, giving him two four-wicket hauls in the match. Middlesex collected 19 points from the Division Two victory, while Lancashire earned three.
