Maye throws three touchdowns as Patriots end Bills' unbeaten start
Drake Maye threw three touchdown passes as the New England Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills 29-26 on Sunday, ending Buffalo's unbeaten start to the NFL season. According to BBC Sport's week-four report, Maye finished with 269 passing yards as New England avoided falling to a 1-3 record.
Watch the highlights:
The decisive exchanges came late in the fourth quarter. Josh Allen put the Bills back ahead with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Keon Coleman with four minutes remaining. New England answered through Efton Chism, whose one-handed touchdown catch restored the visitors' lead before the Patriots intercepted Allen to secure the victory.
For Maye, the performance followed a difficult opening stretch. The 24-year-old had been benched during New England's heavy defeat at Jacksonville a week earlier. Across the Patriots' first three games, he had thrown six interceptions against just one touchdown pass, leaving him close to his eight-interception total from the entire 2025 regular season.
His response in Buffalo also recalled the form that helped take New England to an unexpected Super Bowl appearance last season. Maye narrowly lost the 2025 Most Valuable Player vote to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matt Stafford. Sunday's opposing quarterback, Allen, had won the award for the 2024 season.
The defeat ended a three-game winning start for Buffalo and came before a trip to face the Rams in Los Angeles. The Rams also won on the road on Sunday, recovering from a 20-10 half-time deficit to beat Philadelphia 24-20, with Kyren Williams running for two touchdowns in the final four minutes.
Buffalo were one of two previously unbeaten teams to lose during Sunday's action. The Las Vegas Raiders suffered their first defeat when Kansas City won 30-27, leaving the Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings as the only teams with 4-0 records.
San Francisco protected their perfect start by beating Denver 24-14, while Minnesota defeated Miami 15-10 with five Will Reichard field goals. New England's result ensured Buffalo could not join that group, turning a demanding away assignment into a victory after the disappointment in Jacksonville.
