Mark Sanchez reaches tentative settlement in Indianapolis civil lawsuit
Mark Sanchez and Perry Tole have reached an agreement in principle over their Indianapolis altercation. The civil settlement still requires completion, while a separate criminal hearing is scheduled for November.

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has reached a tentative settlement in the civil lawsuit brought by truck driver Perry Tole following their October 2025 altercation in Indianapolis. USA TODAY Sports reported on October 13 that attorneys had notified a federal judge of an agreement in principle, but the settlement still needed to be finalized and signed.

Watch the highlights:

According to USA TODAY Sports, lawyers for Tole, Sanchez and FOX Corporation informed the court of the agreement on October 2. Tole's lawyers are expected to request dismissal by January 8 once the settlement is completed. The terms were not immediately available, and the outlet said attorneys for the parties had not responded to its requests for comment.

The confrontation occurred on October 4, 2025, during a dispute over a parking spot. Field Level Media reported, citing prosecutors, that Tole used pepper spray and a knife in self-defense after Sanchez attempted to enter his truck. Sanchez sustained stab wounds. Tole, who was 69 at the time, sought damages for injuries to his head, jaw and neck, according to civil court documents cited in that report.

Sanchez had been in Indianapolis to work for Fox Sports on the Las Vegas Raiders' game against the Colts. USA TODAY Sports reported that Tole sued both Sanchez and FOX Corporation, and that the lawsuit moved from Marion County Superior Court to federal court in December 2025. Fox ended its relationship with Sanchez in November 2025.

The criminal proceedings remain separate. Field Level Media reported that Sanchez's lawyers filed a motion in September to plead guilty to at least one charge, without identifying which charge. He had faced a felony battery charge and misdemeanor charges involving entry into a vehicle, public intoxication and battery. A criminal hearing is scheduled for November; the civil agreement does not establish its outcome.

Sanchez entered the NFL as the fifth overall selection by the New York Jets in 2009 and helped the franchise reach consecutive AFC Championship Games. His playing career also included the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Washington, with his final season coming in 2018, according to Field Level Media.
