Manchester United Miss Out on Leicester Midfielder Louis Page

Manchester United's attempt to sign Leicester City midfielder Louis Page will not be completed, leaving the highly rated 18-year-old at the League One club. BBC Sport reported on Tuesday that sources had confirmed the deal was off after United's interest in the player first emerged in August.

An early indication came when Leicester selected Page to start their league match against Plymouth on transfer deadline day. According to BBC Sport, Leicester wanted well in excess of £10 million for the midfielder. It had been anticipated that United would be willing to loan him back to Leicester if an agreement was reached, but that arrangement will now not happen.

Page made his senior debut for Leicester in August 2025 and has since made 25 first-team appearances. Four of those outings have come this season. His progress had attracted United during a summer in which the Old Trafford club had already committed more than £150 million to international midfielders.

Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos have both made their United debuts following their arrivals. Carlos Baleba, signed from Brighton for £70 million, is expected to miss the next couple of weeks with what BBC Sport described as a minor ankle issue. Despite those additions, United pursued Page before the proposed move fell through.

The deadline-day situation also means 19-year-old full-back Harry Amass is expected to stay at United. Amass spent much of preseason as Luke Shaw's understudy but was not included in Michael Carrick's squad for either of the club's first two Premier League matches. BBC Sport reported that a loan had been expected amid several offers, although United's failure to add an experienced left-back changed the picture.

Amass could still be Carrick's third option on the left after Noussair Mazraoui replaced Shaw during Sunday's 5-2 win over Ipswich. United's prospects of signing another left-back were also affected by Joshua Zirkzee not securing a move. Talks with Fiorentina did not produce an agreement over the weekend, while Juventus chose to take Newcastle's Nick Woltemade on loan instead, ending another possible route for Zirkzee before the deadline.
