Mamardashvili saves late penalty as Georgia hold Northern Ireland
Giorgi Mamardashvili denied Isaac Price from the penalty spot in a 0-0 draw at Windsor Park. Northern Ireland remain unbeaten and one point clear in Nations League Group B2.

Giorgi Mamardashvili saved Isaac Price's late penalty as Georgia drew 0-0 with Northern Ireland at Windsor Park on Monday, October 5. The result kept the hosts unbeaten and top of Nations League Group B2, although they could not convert their clearest opportunity into a winning goal, Sky Sports reported.

Watch the highlights:

The decisive intervention came in the 84th minute, after Ruairi McConville was fouled during a scramble in which his header struck the crossbar. The referee awarded the penalty following a video review, but Mamardashvili stopped Price's attempt. The Georgia goalkeeper also denied Jamie Donley and Josh Magennis during a match that remained scoreless throughout.

At the other end, Pierce Charles made important saves from Zuriko Davitashvili and Giorgi Tsitaishvili, according to Sky Sports. Northern Ireland recorded four consecutive competitive clean sheets for the first time since 2017. Charles now has seven shutouts in nine competitive appearances, helping preserve his team's defensive record through the opening four group games.

Manager Michael O'Neill felt Northern Ireland had done enough to win, according to Press Association reporting carried by The Irish News. He nevertheless praised the players' commitment across the four-match programme and regarded eight points without conceding as a positive return. He singled out the sustained contributions of Trai Hume and Shea Charles while reflecting on the effort required from the squad.

O'Neill also identified a problem with his team's second-half approach. In pushing for victory, he said, Northern Ireland allowed the game to become more open and made it harder to recover their earlier control. Georgia's attacking quality meant that chasing a winner brought a risk of defeat, even in a match the manager believed his side deserved to win.

Hungary's 2-1 victory over Ukraine cut Northern Ireland's lead from three points to one, The Irish News reported. O'Neill's team finished the four-game sequence with two away wins and two home draws. He felt the performances at Windsor Park merited more than two points, leaving disappointment alongside an unbeaten start.
