Madueke winner keeps Arsenal three points behind Manchester City
Noni Madueke scored the only goal as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 1-0. The champions remain three points behind Manchester City, while Forest dropped into the relegation zone.

Noni Madueke scored in the 80th minute as Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Sunday, October 18. The result left the defending Premier League champions on 18 points, three behind leaders Manchester City, while Forest fell into the relegation zone, according to Sky Sports' match report. Arsenal won despite producing only one shot on target.

Watch the highlights:

The decisive effort came after Madueke moved infield from the left and struck a shot that changed direction off Jair Cunha, leaving goalkeeper Matz Sels unable to stop it. Arsenal had controlled possession without finding an early breakthrough. Kai Havertz missed with a header from Declan Rice's free-kick, while Ousmane Diomande cleared a Gabriel effort near the line.

Forest threatened an equaliser late on. Rice blocked Chris Wood's attempt before Murillo carried the ball forward and curled wide in stoppage time. Ezri Konsa then intervened to deny Liam Delap. Forest's wait for a home league goal this season continued, despite those opportunities to rescue a point.

Madueke had entered at half-time, and his contribution extended a productive spell for a player still seeking more league starts. BBC Sport reported that his only Premier League start this season came in the 2-1 victory over Leeds eight days earlier. He also started against Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday and supplied the assist for the opening goal.

An injury to Christos Tzolis has created another opening on Arsenal's left flank. According to BBC Sport, the winger suffered a hamstring injury while representing Greece, having established himself as Mikel Arteta's first choice in that position. Madueke has more experience on the right, but Arteta said he was responding well to the team's current need for him on the opposite side.

The BBC also reported that Arsenal substitutes have contributed to 26 Premier League goals since the start of last season, the highest total in the competition. Arteta praised Madueke's growing conviction and decisiveness after the match. The manager pointed to 10 victories in 11 competitive fixtures as evidence that his team were finding different ways to win.
