Macs Page joins Wales squad as Davies backs Scarlets wing for first cap
Macs Page has replaced injured wing Rio Dyer in the Wales squad after scoring five tries this season. Scarlets boss Nigel Davies says the call-up is deserved, with Page returning to light training following a head injury.

Macs Page has been called into the Wales squad to replace injured Dragons wing Rio Dyer, with Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies backing the 21-year-old to earn his first international cap soon. BBC Sport Wales reported that the call-up follows a five-try start to the 2026-27 season, although Page is also recovering from a head injury sustained in South Africa.

Watch the highlights:

Page was hurt while attempting to score again during Scarlets' 52-40 defeat by Stormers in Cape Town last weekend. He landed head-first and was helped from the field with oxygen. Davies told the BBC that the incident had appeared more serious than it proved to be, explaining that the support around Page's neck was part of the required protocol.

According to Davies, Page had resumed light training and was feeling well before departing South Africa to join the national squad. That update does not confirm his selection for a Wales match. Page previously toured Japan with Wales in 2025 without winning a cap, and the BBC identified the home meeting with Japan on 7 November as a possible opportunity for his debut.

The call-up comes as Page approaches 50 appearances for Scarlets, having made his debut for the region in 2024. The Crymych RFC product initially emerged at outside centre. Davies said playing on the wing had given him greater freedom across the field, while also praising his ability to adapt as opponents began paying closer attention to him.

Page joins fellow Scarlets players Blair Murray and Ellis Mee among head coach Steve Tandy's back-three options. Louis Rees-Zammit, Tom Rogers, Josh Adams and Gabriel Hamer-Webb are also in that group. Wales have home Nations Championship fixtures against Japan, New Zealand and Australia next month, followed by a meeting with a southern hemisphere opponent at Twickenham on finals weekend.

The national call-ups also change the resources available to Scarlets. Page is one of eight Wales players unavailable for their United Rugby Championship match against Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday. Davies acknowledged the effect of those absences but said developing Welsh internationals was one of the club's measures of success, with places opening up for other players in the squad.
